US Medical Staff Officer’s Sword W/S by N.P. Ames. Bright blade w/etched script “U.S. Medical Staff” within oval cartouche. Surrounding motifs include American eagle w/shield, foliate scrollwork, floral and fern patterns, and stand-of-flags decoration. Ornate gilt-brass hilt, shield langet engraved “M S”, ribbed textured grip w/eagle design. Solid, tight fit guard. Original gilt-brass scabbard w/matching engraved floral & eagle motifs. Makers mark stamped clearly on the upper throat: “N.P. AMES / Cutler / Cabotville / MASS”. Brass retains warm mellow patina w/ age-appropriate wear. Overall 38″
