Springfield Armory M-1847 Cavalry Musketoon Rifled & Sighted

M-1847 Cavalry Musketoon Rifled & Sighted only 226 made, overall 40 1/2″ in fine + condition. Very few surviving examples are known and Only the second example of this rare musketoon we have owned and by far the better. All markings are present. The rifled bore and actions are fine. Lock and barrel are dated 1853. The original chain is present on the Rod end. Stock is fine having scratches and handling marks. The typical stress crack is seen at the butt where lead was period inserted under butt plate. This was done to weigh down the weapon as the recoil was knocking soldiers from their horse. An extremely rare US Martial weapon.
