An Exceptional example of the W. Jenks-patent breech-loading percussion carbine, manufactured by N.P. Ames for the United States Navy. The lock plate is clearly stamped “N.P. AMES/SPRINGFIELD MASS” along with the “WM JENKS” patent marking, barrel tang is crisply stamped “USN / RP / P / 1844”. The stock displays two clear inspector’s cartouches on the left side “R.P.” and “J.L.”. The walnut stock show an attractive mellow brown patina overall, honest hadling wear, scattered dings and surface scratches consistent with age. The barrel and lock retain a pleasing plum-brown patina. Overall 41″.
