Ames Mfg Co. Cabotville 1849 marked Riflemans Knife W/S overall 18 3/4″. Blade marked on other side US over WD. Only 1000 of these knives were purchased by the US Ordnance in 1849. Original surviving examples are far and few between. Blade remains in very fine condition. Wood grips show some use. The original brass mounted leather scabbard is very fine with some dings and discoloration to brass. Frog stup has a small D inspection. Guard is inspected WD and J.W.R. One of the nicer examples we have seen in a while.
